In a simple two-stroke engine, the fuel mixture flow into and out of the cylinder is a deciding factor in the engine's overall power output. The porting and timing of the 55AX have been designed so that the engine has flat and linear power characteristics.
The "Power Box" silencer that accompanies all AX series engines effectively reduces the sound level without sacrificing any power.
The new concept silencer was developed with a view of the future of model engines and their effect on environmental concerns, i.e. reducing the sound level of the model engines.

O.S. two-stroke engines have always been leading products in the company's historical line up. Over the years O.S. has offered an extensive line or engines in different displacement sizes for a variety of airplanes. The AX series embody our new concept in this line-up with a new model, the 55AX, now having been added to the line. Based on the design philosophy of the MAX-120AX, the MAX-55AX has the same "Slant Head" and cylinder fin profile as well as the boxy "Power Box" silencer. This latest model has been developed focusing on three major points - the powerful output characteristic of a two-stroke engine, an easily adjustable carburetor and a significant lowering of the neighbor annoying sound level.

The MAX-55AX has succeeded in achieving these requirements, and hopefully, those purchasing a MAX-55AX will enjoy the development work that has gone into this engine.
